Office Mission


The Office of Investigation & Resolution (OIR) is part of Campus Compliance Services, which is the central campus compliance unit at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK).

The Campus Compliance Services unit provides support, coordination, and assistance to other campus units working to ensure university-wide compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and university policies, while encouraging the highest ethical standards of conduct for those who represent the university and act on its behalf.

OIR serves as the central campus investigation unit for UTK (including the UT Institute of Agriculture and UT Space Institute) and the UT Institute for Public Service.

OIR’s mission includes:

  • Receiving, assessing, and investigating and/or otherwise resolving reports of violations of university policy in a prompt, thorough, and impartial manner;
  • Advancing the university’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming living, learning, and working environment;
  • Supporting university expectations for workplace behavior; and
  • Facilitating compliance with:
    • applicable federal law;
    • applicable state law; and
    • university policy, including campus equal opportunity and non-discrimination policies (e.g., HR0220, HR0280).
